POWELL TIPPED FOR STARDOM

Crewe Alexandra’s Nick Powell has showed the reason for him being rated as one of the best young prospects within English football over the past few months. The 17-year-old teenager has been regarded as a player capable of playing for the top clubs in England. He has now been voted as the Football League Young Player of the Month for the month of December. The attacking midfielder is a product of the youth academy at Crewe Alexandra. The League two club Crewe Alexandra expressed its delight at having Nick Powell named as the best young talent for the month of December.

Nick Powell has been a youth player Crewe Alexandra since five years old. He made his debut for the club when he was just 16 years old, and it was during the season that he established himself as a first team regular for the club. It has been rumoured that clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham are having to look at the player. Even if Nick Powell does not secure a transfer to a big club this transfer window, many are expecting him to move to a Premier league club in the summer.

“He has always stood out as a talent. He has always been different. As Nick walked off the pitch at Wimbledon, I thought ‘this is it, he has arrived’. That was his best game by a long way and he has carried on with a series of mature performances since then,” Crewe director of football Dario Gradi said. Nick Powell scored his first senior goal for Crewe Alexandra earlier in the season. He has also been a regular for the England under 16 and England under 17 matches. His debut came as a late substitute in the match against Cheltenham on August 2010.
