CREWE BAG FOURTH SUMMER SIGNING

League Two side Crewe Alexandra are making moves in the transfer market this summer after the club confirmed the free transfer signing of midfielder Charlie Colkett. Crewe Alexandra revealed on Tuesday via a statement that Colkett will join the club on a two-year deal at the start of next month thus making him the fourth summer signing. The other arrivals at Crewe Alexandra this summer are Conor Thomas, Courtney Baker-Richardson and Kevin Mellor.

25-year-old Colkett came through the youth system at Premier League heavyweights Chelsea before leaving the club on several loan deals. He was loaned out by the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions on several occasions before signing for Ostersunds in the Swedish league.

Colkett was sent on loan to clubs such as English outfit Bristol Rovers, Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, English team Swindon Town and English club Shrewsbury Town by Chelsea before the move to Swedish top flight team Ostersundsduring the winter transfer window in 2019. He was part of the Ostersunds squad as they suffered relegation from the Swedish top flight at the end of last year. Colkett left Ostersunds to join Cheltenham Town in the English league during the last winter transfer window earlier this year.

At national team level, Colkett represented England between the u-16 team and the u-20 team. He’s a left-footed playmaker who has played almost 150 games on the professional football stage. A lot of his appearances have been in English League One and the first division in Sweden. The major worry attached to his signing is that he has not made more than 27 appearances in all competitions in a single season.Colkett made a personal record of 27 appearances for Ostersunds in all competitions during the 2020 season.

The target for Colkett and Crewe Alexandra is to get back to League One football instantaneously after the relegation to League Two this season.
