UWAKWE: CREWE HANDED FULLBACK BOOST

League One outfit Crewe Alexandra have been handed a massive boost in the fullback positions after Tariq Uwakwe returned to training after a lengthy injury absence in time for him to feature in the final games of the season.

The Sheffield Wednesday game later this week will come too soon for Uwakwe, but he’s on course to feature against Ipswich Town and Lincoln City in the final two games of the season. The game between Crewe Alexandra and hosts Sheffield Wednesday will take place on Wednesday.

Uwakwe is an utility fullback who can do a good job in both the left-back and right-back positions. He has been out of action since February 22 when he sustained a knee injury during the English League One clash with Oxford United. The 22-year-old fullback could make his return from injury after two months during the home game with Ipswich Town at the weekend. Ipswich Town would be the guests of Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Also, Crewe Alexandra have been boosted with the return of Ryan Alebiosu from injury and the right-back is set to feature in the final two games of the season against Ipswich Town and Lincoln City. His fitness status was revealed via a statement on the Crewe Alexandra website. The same statement also conveyed the fitness status of Uwakwe.

20-year-old Alebiosu is an Arsenal loanee as he’s on loan at Crewe from the Gunners. He sustained a back injury during the League One clash with Wigan Athletic and that prompted him to return to his parent club. He had made four appearances for Crewe Alexandra before sustaining the back injury. His return to the Crewe squad would be a welcome development with Travis Johnson struggling with injury. Both Uwakwe and Alebiosu are expected to feature in the final two games of the current League One season.
